Carburant

During the smelting process, due to improper batching or loading, as well as excessive decarburization, sometimes the carbon content in the steel does not meet the requirements of the peak period. At this time, carbon needs to be added to the steel liquid.
The commonly used carburetors are pig iron, electrode powder, petroleum coke powder, charcoal powder and coke powder. When smelting medium and high carbon steel grades in converter, petroleum coke with few impurities is used as carburetor. The requirement for carburizing agents used in top blown converter steelmaking is to have high fixed carbon content, low ash content, volatile matter, and impurities such as sulfur, phosphorus, and nitrogen, and to be dry, clean, and of moderate particle size.
For casting, cast iron, cast steel, and castings, there is a requirement for carbon. As the name suggests, a carburetor is used to increase the carbon content in the molten iron. For example, in smelting, the commonly used furnace materials are pig iron, scrap steel, and return material. The carbon content of pig iron is high, but the purchase price is one section higher than that of scrap steel. Therefore, increasing the amount of scrap steel, reducing the amount of pig iron, and adding a carburetor, It can play a certain role in reducing casting costs.
The use of carburizing agent can not only make up for the carbon burning loss in the process of steel smelting, ensure the requirements of carbon content of specific steel grades, but also can be used for post furnace adjustment. As an important raw material for melting molten iron in induction furnaces, the quality and usage of carburetors directly affect the state of the molten iron [2].
Adding a specific grade of carburizing agent to the ladle after slag removal and degassing treatment can adjust the carbon content in the ladle, achieving the goal of multiple grades in one ladle. The materials used for carburetors mainly include graphite, graphite like materials, electrode blocks, coke, silicon carbide, and other materials. The commonly used electrode blocks and silicon carbide carburetors have the advantages of high carbon content and strong oxidation resistance, but the production process is relatively complex and the cost is high; Using coke powder and graphite as carbonization materials has lower production costs compared to materials such as electrode blocks, but it contains high ash and sulfur content, low carbon content, and poor carbonization effect.
